I left a post as well. Hopefully the pathfinders will come over and discuss and learn more about hanging as it seems Dave was moving toward that path before he started making the survival series.

    BlueFin,
yep saw your stuff...but at least you posted and if we all just keep at it maybe the video will be corrected or better yet removed altogether. Dave C. would want the right thing to be done brother. It may not be Critter's first rodeo, but that tree was definetely dead and just because he himself might tip the scales at 145lbs doesn't mean that everyone watching does. In fact, from my observations of people his physical build would be in the lower percentage of the population.

With all of that said, we could also PM wildernessoutfitters (I already have)
and leave a comment also, that way Dave Canterbury or Rob (minding the site in Dave's Absence) would see the comments left personally. Dave has always been a straight up guy and would definetely want to know about this kind of stuff.

Accidently attaching to a dead tree almost did leave our crew in a survival situation a couple years ago, after I first started hanging. There were two trees standing just inches apart, and I looked up and saw green needles so I hooked up. My wife and our little dog sat in the hammock for about a half hour, then my friend got in. We heard a thump and turned around to see him on the ground with a busted hammock and wood everywhere. The tree I tied to was dead, and about 18" of the top had come right down in his lap. If it weren't for the hammock breaking I can see there being two mid-shaft femur fractures and I don't carry a traction splint in my firstaid kit; certainly not a pair of them!

We drugged him, iced him, broke camp, and once we were confident there were no fractures, we made him start walking out to keep him from bruising and swelling. That cut the trip short, but I'd strongly recommend not teaching others to hang from dead trees, especially with a hammock strung like a fiddle string, and futhermore not when you may already be in a bad senario. This is a survival school after all.

Well if you post up on you tube you can take criticism two ways.... constructively or defensively.... looks like critter's handle is woodcrafter76 and his rebuttle on some comments seems defensive. If he does come over he may have a chip on his shoulder.

Wouldn't be the first time someone has come on knowing all there is to know. It doesn't take long for them to either get educated and stay or disgusted and leave. It's hard to argue with the first hand accounts of those who are successful. If worst comes to worst the quants can dazzle him with the math. Watch them eyes glaze over.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I watch PF vids regularly and usually get something from each, but not this one. I was going to post about HF but everyone else beat me to it. So I figured there was enough on there about it.

looks like comments have been disabled on the youtube vid, but not video responses. Perhaps a "better way" video response would be appropriate. Anyone with a camera?

Went to their channel and also left a comment there. I enjoy their videos and am very disappointed in the response to well meaning criticism. We all learn as we go, whether we admit it or not.
