Having an eye-ball to eye-ball stare of with a wolf is a true gift from above.....
In 2005 or so I had the same experience on the SHT around Little Indian River. We locked eyes for about 3 to 4 seconds and he turned and ran. I stood there a while .... pulled my lil' knife and packed on. Felt watched for a mile or so.
I talked to a Ranger and she thought maybe he was a an adolescent separated from the pack. Gets the ol' ticker pumping!!!!
Glad you had the thrill!!!!!!

An exhilarating privilege, Pizza!
My wife and I were hiking the trail by Lutsen a few years ago and had one walk across the trail 10-15 yards in front of us. He stopped looked at us and walked right off into the brush. We stood there speechless for a few minutes.
Sometimes I think back to that and wonder if it really happened. Surreal!
“Somebody told me it was frightening how much topsoil we are losing each year, but I told that story around the campfire and nobody got scared” - Jack Handy
What a great story!
One thing in that story really underlined a difference between Canada and the States..hiking with a Glock!
