    What's wrong with my avatar?

Consider myself pretty Web savvy and participate in a lot of forums but for some reason I can't get an avatar to work properly on this forum. What's happening is, if I follow the guidelines and make mine 19 pixels it displays too small to see. If I enlarge any over this size it won't let me upload. Even tried posting off site and plugging in the URL. Must be something I'm doing wrong as I see others with nice looking pics. Can anyone help me?

I'm not sure what guidelines you're reading, but 19 pixels is way, way too small.

From the avatar edit page guidelines:
"Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 100 by 100 pixels or 19.5 KB (whichever is smaller). "

I'd resize your pic to 100 x 100, then save it as a compressed jpg file. Select a jpeg compression rate that gets the file size under 19.5KB.

    Hope that helps.

Edit: FWIW, mine is a 100 x 98 jpg file, size = 8.4 KB, give or take.

    Good advice above.

    Ding-Ding-Ding! We have a winner!

Pixel size requirements are exactly as Frawg noted. Play with the dpi a little if you need to get under the 19kb limit.

Sorry, I posted that from work going by memory on the size. It's 65x79 pixels at 72 dpi for 15 kb--kept reducing file size until I could get it to post. Anything larger and I got a "failed to load" message or something like that. I'll keep trying. Edit, new avatar loaded, but old pic is still there.. arghhhh

OK, 15th time is a charm. Now know the difference between a profile picture and an avatar!
