    US 50 in Nevada

Just wondering if anybody here has ever biked US 50 across Nevada?

Not yet, but I'm planning to "bike" a good part of it next year after I retire. On a motorbike, that is Actually it will be a hammock-haulin' motorscooter

Is that the one that they call "the loneliest road in America" or something like that.
I've driven across it a few times.
    Enjoy!

Yeah, that's the one fiddlehead. Looks like I might just do Austin west to Cold Springs. Might try the Carrollton Peak alt. route.... Retiree motorcycle road trip..... miboso, that sounds like a ball. Looks like I'll be driving through Redding also. Thanks for the replies.

Yup, rode across a couple times. Like it says, it sure is lonely and monotonous! Best done early in the morn due to heat.

Lonely, monotonous, and hot. That sounds like an interesting ride. Checked the route out on Google(maps and Earth). And looked at some journal pics of other peoples rides on crazyguyonabike.com . Boy things sure have changed when you can get so much info about a trip/route for free. Thank you for your reply Harpo63.

it is an interesting ride. It goes on and on and on to the point where your mind wanders and it can be a pretty ride in its own way. The scenery is different than most. Death Valley is a whole another animal. A good ride to do when you have alot of pondering to do! ha.

Hwy 50 is a great ride, I just did it last year on my way to Colorado to visit a friend. I've been on that road from end to end at least a dozen times in as many years.

One word of advise if you do ride it is to obey the speed limits in the towns that you pass. Austin is particularly nasty as some of the residents have posted signs to let you know to be wary.

Harpo63 --I was thinking about doing a token ride in Death Valley on the road trip. Not sure if I am going through there yet. Still working out the route. Thanks for the tip Hammer.

If you do death valley, one secret I learned was to have a cooling vest on. I was amazed at how well it worked while my riding buddy (without one) looked like he was ready to die from the heat.
