    slippery bowline

'nuther one worth considering is a slippery bowline. You tie the bowline per usual up until the very last step where normally you thread the entire working end through the "hole" (recall rabbit/hole/tree story on tying knot). Instead you double the working end over and put the bend through, and then dress the knot. Holds well just like a normal bowline, but you can yank on the working end to untie. The yank pulls the bight out of the hole and nothing else in the knot is under tension.

I seem to recall Brandon's video showing it (the slipped buntline) in the middle of the standing piece - when I do that, it slips. Does the buntline have to be snubbed up hard against the triangle ring to not slip?

And here I thought that the cord suspension would be easier to use with a stand...

yes, it jams against the ring, but after that it stays put.
Leastwise, that's the way I've always used it.

The slippery bowline can be tied in the middle of the standing piece.

Edit to add - this is the WB cord suspension. Amsteel (I think?) cord, tied off to a triangle ring at the end of the WB tree-hugger strap. It's not a 'normal' tree-hugger with open loops on both sides.

(note: the slipped buntline hitch may slip if used by users over 250#, so this knot may not be the best choice for heavier users)
Maybe that's cutting it a little close.

And here I thought that the cord suspension would be easier to use with a stand...
What kind of stand? Do you need the tree huggers on the stand? Could you wrap a Hennessy style fig 8, or a Speer type whatever it's called, or a bunch of round turns with a few half hitches, directly around the stands uprights?

EDIT: never mind, I see from your post 3 minutes ago that you have it figured out. Good for you!

    Yep...snubbed against the Tri-ring...

Maybe so - I may try the slipped bowline that Grizz mentioned if need be.

When it finally gets built (still trying to scrounge the materials), it'll be a TrailH4X 2x4 stand. I might be able to hennesy wrap around the 2x4 itself, but unsure how *many* wraps I could make before running out of cord. Wrapping the huggers around several times and tying off the ring could be an option, too....I think.

And thank you as well, beep, for the original suggestion of the buntline.

Seeing the hammock there in the back room makes me *SO* want to go try to lay in it...but I know that the bays aren't braced for that much weight. Enough weight to make the material taught so I can see what height I want to set the ridgeline at is one thing, my full weight is something else!!

slipped fisherman's knot. I recommend at least 4 wraps. When using mono line, I wrap six times, don't slip it, and it never comes loose.

If there's anything slipperier than Stren, I've knot used it. :-)
