    WOw, thanks for testing!~

    That’s great, convert2010. Really great.

I am wondering if putting a simple loop on the end of the amsteel and then using, as someone else mentions, a toggle (a tent stake, a butterknife, etc) on one side of the door would work…might distribute the force more than the knot, and no tying method. But, your knot idea does work as it stands, indeed. Door opening inward or outward probably wouldn’t matter if the hinged side is used for the knot.

You might want to put the word “hammock” in your video title… as the title is now, it’ll never come up when someone youtube searches hammock.

Hey, idea—could the amsteel simply be tied around the hinge itself. i.e. open the door, thread it once completely around top hinge (all the way around it from top to bottom), and then shut the door?

Why not just put your toggle right above the top hinge, then pass it through below the hinge?

I also added some pictures of how I made my Soft Shackle. I made it a bit differently from Opie's design. I think my design is a bit cleaner and still holds my 190 pounds up so I am happy with it.

I tested a soft shackle on one door and some webbing on the other door and both held quite well.

I hope you enjoy the video.
Dang. I can't look at youtube.com during work. This is going to have to wait until I get home.

Oooh, good idea! Above hinge with strap, come out below hinge, close the door, then add a flat toggle to disperse weight. Honestly, I think I'd consider this at a hotel now. Looking forward to more thoughts from convert2010 regarding this situation.

I would think that since the force would be on the hinge (held with only 4 screws each side) it would be weak compared to the force being distributes across the entire top of the door. But then again I am not a rocket scientist so I cant be trusted. I have seen doors ripped out of the frame by the screws so I would not trust it. but thats just me.

Test it and let us know.

Correct... no matter how you attach, the door must be closed before you put weight in the hammock.

Great video! Good ideas you have there. Thanks for taking the time to do that.

If I ever open a hotel I will have a hammock wing on it. smaller rooms but with hammocks instead of beds. Way less laundry.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but most hotels are double or queen sized beds and a double bed is roughly 8' diagonally. What stops the use of 4 lightweight telescoping poles from being used to for an inverted "V" with tension ropes underneath keeping it from collapsing. I mean we are talking car/plane travel here not backpacking weight isn't the main concern and a stand is WAY less risk of damaging something and having a hefty repair bill and/or getting kicked out.
