    New guy in CO

    Hello,

I haven't bought a hammock yet, but I will soon, and I came here to learn from the collective wisdom and experience of you all.

I've never been a very good "tent sleeper," and I believe sleeping in a hammock would help me, plus I would like not to have to worry about finding flat ground, carrying a sleeping pad, etc. I've been mostly a "car camper" in the past, but I'd like to get into touring and backpacking more.

I'm planning a solo MTB tour of a portion of the Colorado Trail in mid-August, for which I expect to use a hammock. I plan on trying it out a couple times before I begin the trip.

Thanks in advance for any advice you care to share.

Don't listen to him. As long as you always carry an extra Snickers Bar, you'll be safe.

I have a few hammocks laying around. If you are interested in a specific hammock, or two, I probably have one that you are welcome to try out before you go spend money on one. If you want to come over to our place, I'll be happy to set them up for you. You are even welcome to 'camp' on our property to try one overnight. PM me if interested.

In any case, welcome to the Forums!

Welcome, Fitty, just read on, and before you know it, you'll have not one, but two or more hammocks for your trip!

Awesome - more and more members from CO...the winter hang should be great this year! (Jan-Feb timeframe)

You may not need a pad, but you'll need some kind of insulation on bottom. Check here for the basics:
