I am sure this has been asked before....

But, I have a Hennessey Ultralite Explorer Asym that I greatly like and have used for the past four years. But, after four years of summer section hikes on the AT, it is becoming olfactorily unsatisfactory. It down right stinks.

So, anybody ever throw one in the washer for a spin. Gotta help. I could see perhaps doing that then hanging to dry.

    Any thoughts?

I have heard of people using the bath tub and mild soap to clean the olfactory offending item and then hanging it outside to dry. Just make sure that you rinse all of the soap out of the hammock!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a bathtub washer that washes my frequently used hammocks once or twice a year.

My personal preference would be to take it to a laundromat and use a large front loading washer. The tumble action is less likely to damage the netting than an agitator IMO. Then hang to dry. The bathtub is fine (I've done it) but I just can't rinse things as well as as a large front loader.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

ZQ here....a few months ago I put 2Q's HH in our front loader on the gentle cycle and it came out looking and smelling great!!

Some of the hammocks we get in to modify could use the same tender loving care!

@ZQ- you could add that service for a cost. I bet some would take you up on it.

My mother loves to use a little amonia to get the "funk" out of fabrics, it works well, but you only have to use a little.

For those who may not know.. never use ammonia with a laundry product containing chlorine bleach. A few have it added by default now days. Very bad idea as chlorine gas (highly toxic) can be released.

my HH is camo looking from a bleach wash LOL

mild soap and wash tub works great.

i packed mine away after two months of use and set it up in the yard a month later. i kept looking under it and wondering who let the dogs do their business in the front yard.

Rev good point. I assumed people wouldn't want to use bleach because of how hard it is on fabrics.

A safe assumption IF people know what they are doing. But if the wife buys a laundry product that includes it _I_ would not have known to check until I started getting back into DIY. Better a quick note than letting things go bad.
