I'm in the prosses of making an underquilt and only need to figure out my suspension. I think shock cord is the read answer but i don't know how much to buy. its sold by the foot at a store near me. its a 2/3 ish quilt on a ten foot gathered end.

I reject your reality and substitute my own
It depends on the size of the shock cord. A skinnier cord will have to stretch more in order to hold the weight of the underquilt. However, I would buy a little more and remove the excess rather than to find out you did not buy enough and have to start all over again.
