    Sewing No Seeum

I'm interested in doing my own Bug Net project. Anything I should be aware of in sewing No Seeum bug netting? Thanks.

rolled hems and flat felled seams work best IMO
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

+1 on what Rev said ... my limited experience sewing it ... those two seams are the way to go ... depending on your application.

Be careful not to stretch the netting when you sew - can easily end up with things not lining up properly. And +3 to the flat felled seam. The extra strength of that seam is very helpful for netting.

For some reason I've never been able to get no-see-um to feed through my thread injector. If I edge the netting with folded grossgrain, life is good. This limits what I can do. I'd sure be happy to be able to seam netting directly to netting.

This may belong in another thread... But do any of ya'll know of fabric that is impervious to mosquitoes? I read that the little blood suckers can even poke through denim.

I am wondering about making a bivy out of such material, or a bug suit. The Cabela Bug suit is interesting. It is purportedly light-weight and has a net or noseeum face mask, but one of the reviews said that the bugs can bite through where the suit touches the skin. Well, if worn in a hammock, that would be your entire back and sides!

Of course, I could also make a light weight bivy and soak the thing (along with the hammock) in permethrin. But as a contact insecticide, would it also repel bites from below.

That reminds me, I sewed up a sleep sack... it would be easy enough to sew some noseeum or tulle on the ontoo the top portion...
