How I wish I could have been there as planned. Being so close it really hurt not being able to make it. Morning and late afternoon doctor's appointments on Friday and a construction crew at my house from last Wednesday until tomorrow made it almost impossible. Glad everyone enjoyed this area.

===> ENJOYED??? We *LOVED* the area! I will be taking my family back up there for a day or two in the near future! What an absolutely idyllic place!
Although, on the way home, Richtl (Chocolatier) and I went through a small village called, "Harmonyville" that was TOO perfect! Every horse and cow, every neatly painted fence and house, lawn, streams, EVERYTHING was like an Alfred Hitchcock movie set! We liked looking at it, but kept on driving!
We could easily envision getting a flat tire, and having the strange-looking man in the gas station tell us his son could fix it .... and then having a drooling hunchback serial killer come out from the back room!

This will be a multi-part post from me. May take a couple days to get it all in!
No camera, as usual. But the other folks are posting photos.

"Do you know the guy you're riding with?" my wife asked?
"Never met, don't even know his name." I answered. "But he's a hammocker, so he can't be all bad."
Skypainter picked me up at the Barnes & Noble in Nashua NH around 9:30--didn't look much like a serial killer, so I threw in my pack and we headed off for Vermont. Skypainter's an interesting guy with a lot of hobbies/obsessions, so the conversation was lively and the 3-hour drive went by pretty quickly. (Stopping by his dropzone to watch his friends jump out of an airplane and the ensuing formal chocolate tasting made the trip go by really quickly).
We arrived at Grout Pond in the early afternoon and met up with Jonesy and Veto at Jonesy's site by the pond. The rest of us set up across the path where there... (Mike's knocking on the door to get this trip report in person.) ...were many excellent perfectly-spaced trees. It was very hot and very muggy, so we mostly sat around just getting to know each other. And checking out each other's hammock, rigging, and gear, of course.
Skypainter and Jonesy spent most of the afternoon reminiscing about their war experiences, so Veto and I wandered out for a short hike. Mr. Veto, as it turns out, knows a heckuvalot about military history, and I know a heckuvalot about food history, se we had a very entertaining discussion around the intersection of the two, which quickly evolved into an interesting discussion about Rome, Greece, and Alexander the Great.
Bleemus and Bongo eventually wandered back in, followed not long after by the JerzyBears.
(to be continued...)
And then the police came.
Niloc: Friday evening's chocolate was Danta 40% Finca Los Ujuxtes Milk from Guatemala -- that's the one you're thinking about. Saturday's chocolate was Valrhona Jivara.
Quoddy: Really missed seeing you at the hang. I'll probably give you a call in the next week or two to catch up. Btw, I topped a small batch of handcrafted bonbons with your Guatemalan coffee beans. Beautiful, just beautiful.

Sounds like a great time. Thanks for sharing your trip.
I am sorry I didn't make it but something workwise came up Friday morning that delayed me until late that afternoon when I didn't really have time to make it up that day. With plans for Sunday evening, I didn't want to rush up Saturday & back on Sunday (I live a town over from JerzyBears). Hopefully next time.

Found a pic of me (SkyPainter) and Rich (Chocolatier - in hat) in front of the Wardsboro Post Office in VT on the way back from the hang. Town had about five structures; we had just left the combination General Store/Deli/Gas Station. Pic was taken by friendly stranger. Small town, friendly folk.
