NE / New York Hang in Vermont Initial Report

Back from the hang - alive! Was one of the best times ever .... what a great, eclectic, group of people! Through rains and flies, we adapted and overcame. We cooked, we laughed, we cooked some more, we hiked, we laughed, we cooked some more. We survived the onslaught of tiny Red Squirrels. (Although they got Veto's Triscuits in seconds, and my bag of flour!) Thank God Bleemus was there with Bongo, who had a ball chasing the little blighters! Much gear inspection, idea swapping, and cameraderie! And Richtl .... we gave him a few new trail names ...later on those .... provided custom-blended imported chocolate treats and chocolate lessons for us all ...just AMAZING stuff!

We came from Mass, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Vermont. We hung together, an impromtu community, born of the hammock and the hike. It was "Trail Magic" personified! Friendships forged, and future hangs discussed.

My phone/camera died, pics will be coming from others, although I may have a couple saved.

What a nice trip, to a gorgeous location, with great people. THIS is what it is all about.

Sounds like you had a wonderful hang! Not sure if this was your first time, but I know that I felt the same on my first hang, what a great bunch of people and I am 10000000000% sure it will be just as good if not better on my next HF group hang! Can't wait to see some pic's and thanks for the report!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

====> THANKS! Yep! It was just awesome! Deep in the woods in Vermont ... indescribable scenery! My first hang with the HF folks, and DEFINITELY not the last! We had folks (Jersey Bears and Ishmail) drive almost seven hours to get there!!

Stories abound, but I am far too tired to do those right now!

    What a great time!

    Great time

I had a great time with every single person. I finally went camping with people that I had alot in common with. I'm planning and getting ready for a kayak trip in the adirondaks tomorrow and don't have time to figure out how to download the pictures onto the form. Will try to when I get back.

====> Most of the group in Vermont ... Front Row, Fred Jones (left) and Erik from PA (right). Back row is the JerzyBears, then Richtl, and Veto, AKA John. Bleemus and Bongo were just up the trail a bit.

The other two pics are my rig in the woods there.

What an interesting and FUN group to hang with! I hope to hang with them all again sometime, possibly at the Fall Vermont Hang we are chatting about starting. I am sure there will be more pics from the folks who had working electronics!!

I had a great time meeting everyone. Too bad I didn't bring a camera to take any photos or video. I'm no Shug

What a blast it was to meet everyone and talk about all kinds of things. Not only did we talk about hammocks, but I got to learn about fly fishing, sky diving, stoves, knives, back packs and war stories just to name a few.

We also had some AMAZING chocolate. Which I will wait for Chocolatier to describe, because sadly I can't remember the names, but I would like to research them some on the internet once I find out. One of the bars we got to try is only imported by Chocolatier so we were all lucky and now part of a small handful of Americans which have tried it.

Hopefully we plan a hang for the fall around the time to try to enjoy some beautiful fall foliage.

I talked with SkyPainter a lot about skydiving. Being a person who is afraid of heights, after talking with him about it so much, it actually sparked my interest of thinking about trying it. What a way to overcome a fear. Now I just need to convince myself to do it.

We had quite a big rain storm Friday night and into Saturday morning. But of course that didn't stop us at all from having fun.

====> Well, it won't be the only one we plan, now! Every one of us wants to put together another hang, maybe in the same place, only in the Fall, when the mountains turn into a painting! Hopefully, you will be able to attend that one if it gets going!
