Jons4real "a bit about the man"

    Hey all Jon here,
I've simlply been fascinated with hammocks since I was kid. I recently recieved my first hammock from my wife for Fathers Day. I have been doing my best to get all caught up with whats going on in the hammock world. There is just so many things to learn. I recieved a ENO Double and I'm really enjoying it. The only issue I have is that I don't get to use it nearly as much as I want to. I am a stay at home dad with twin girls. My girls are almost 8 months old and keep me busy all the time. I have really been in youtube here lately and posting video is becoming a real hobby. Often in many of my table top reviews you can catch glimpses of them in the background or hear them, laughs, giggles, rattles and anything else they can get their hands on. They are not the only reason I dont get out as much as I'd like. I'm grew up around a lot hard wood forest in PA. Since I've married I now live in middle Ga. I can't say the woods down here are excatly the kind of place thats hospitable. Actually it more like a vietnam jungle. Unlike Ga PA is a very well rounded state with 4 perfect seasons, sluch thick green grass and beautiful clean water. I think the worst part about living here is the fact that theres no trout streams within 3 hours drive....... If your an outdoorsman, PA will spoil you rotten. From where I grew up there was a fairly famous trout stream called Yellow breeches. Yellow Breeches was only about an 45 mins away. You know in all the years I trout fished and I'm talking atleast 4x a week I never fished it. Why you wonder.... I just never had to, there was always plenty of great fishing within a stones throw from the house, lol. So yes I terribly miss living up North around the mountains. All in all I count myself very blessed. I have a wonderful family and have the ability to invest myself into hobbies that I really enjoy, like hammocks.

Great post! Sooooo, in the future, when the DIY bug bites you, are we to assume that you'll post pics of the twins in their new Daddy made hammocks? Welcome to the forum.

Hello Jon welcome to the forum. We are glad that you have found your way to HF. Within this forum is a treasure trove of information on hammocks. My hat is off to being a stay at home dad with two baby girls. My kids are all grown and have been out on their own for years now. I spent 23 years in the US Navy. When they were young I was deployed overseas or on ships much of the time. So I missed many of kids "firsts" when they were growing up. Count yourself lucky to ba able to be there and experience them with your girls. I envy ya pal.

    Jons:
Welcome to HF and congratulations on the be at home Dad. Like Poppabear I am jealous of the time you are spending with the kids. Since you are at home and have two models wanting to help why not start the girls early and make some kid size hammocks. That way when nap time rolls around you all can hang out together. There are some great DIY hammock plans on the site including a kids bridge hammock.

Welcome to the forums ... and a big howdy from NC ... formerly of Mifflingburg PA where I enjoyed Yellow Breeches, Pine Creek, Penns Creek, White Deer Creek, Buffalo Creek and a few more ... I love me some Penn fly fishing. Got to spend some time on a few creeks and on a vise with George Harvey ... so let me tell you I'm missing my 12 years north of the Mason Dixon when it comes to trout fishing!

Welcome to hammocking and Georgia. You just need somebody to show you around Georgia and how great it is. You do have trout within 3 hours or less but even better you have Georgia's shoal bass and you are right in the middle of the best shoal bass fishing in the state. Of course you also have the coast within three hours and some great redfish and sea trout. You just don't know you are in Heaven.

From here in Osceola Mills, Pa.--Welcome aboard!!! Like you Jon, I have been busy with family, and have been real anxious to get out and try my Clark NA Hammock somewhere other than my backyard!!!
Your right about the fishing--I am surrounded by streams!! I am just do occasional recreation type fishing. More of a Whitetail deer hunter.
As a matter of fact, I have Been so busy raising a family ( a lot of car camping over the years with the kids) that I am just now getting back into backpacking after a 30 year hibernation ( kids are all older now)--Wow has the camping and backpacking equipment changed!!
I spent weeks looking at backpacking ground tents/shelters and somehow I followed ( as Shug would say) the bread crumbs to Hammock forums, been hooked ever since!!
    Welcome aboard!!
