    tarp fabric ?

What’s a good fabric to use for a diy tarp? Preferably something easy to get my hands on.

Light weight and water proof are the two criteria for a tarp. The general consensus is that silnylon is the say to go. Here here here and here are a few sources.

My favorite. Plus they have patterns, accessories and the most helpful woman in the business to answer the phone.

    P. S. I've used the cat curve generator for a few projects. If you want me to help you with a pattern, email me. :-)

1st tarp might be good to go with $1.50/yd PU coated ripstop from Walmart. Weighs about twice as much as Sil but some feel it is easier to work with. "Easy to get" might be a problem, as they are getting out of the fabric by the yard business at mostWalmart locations.

I understand the desire for sylnylon, but why wouldn't regular ripstop work? All the tents that I've had just had regular ripstop, and they didn't leak.

    What brand tent?

More than likely it was treated with poly urethane or silicone. Regular ripstop is not waterproof.

If it was, we would all be using it!
