Where to place a "space blanket"

I have heard about using emergency "Space" blankets to increase insulation but where exactly is it placed? Under or in the hammock. My set up is a HH asym with Big Agnes down air mattress/ Lone Ranger 15 degree bag. How much does this add in terms of temperature?

I'd place it in the glove box and only use it in emergencies...but that's just me.

You want some space between you and the blanket or the radiative properties won't work. So put it outside the hammock if you use an underquilt, or between the hammock and pad if you use a pad inside the hammock.

But it's also a vapor barrier...so don't put it outside the underquilt or it'll trap the moisture inside your insulation.

    From top to bottom:

    hammock
    space blanket
    underquilt

    or...

    pad
    space blanket
    hammock

    JMHO...hope it helps.

    I believe that
Hennessy says to put it under the hammock, over the pad. That is if you're using a Super Shelter. I'm loving my SS, BTW. it's much warmer than people were saying it would be, but then again, I'm a very warm sleeper. I put an extra 1/4" of Evzote CCF between the SS OCF and the hammock last night, and at 50 degrees, shorts and a tee, and just a fleece blanket, I was roasty toasty. With warm clothes and a down OQ, under 30 should be easy even without an UQ.

I would have been a full time hanger starting last year if I'd known that keeping warm was so easy!

The optimal place is between you and the insulation, ideally with some space on either side.

The space is hard to do, but I'd say given the nature of the space blanket function it'd work best in the hammock, space blanket, underquilt configuration.

    Where to put a SB

I use just the undercover on the HH and the underpad.
I put the Emergency blanket between the pad and the hammock bottom.

How about putting it on the other side of a Balloon Bed? 3.5oz including pump and you can sleep on it if you don't have trees for hanging.
