Jared and I can be there for noon. Are we meeting at the trailhead parking lot for noon, or the camp office?
Hi Biran,
I'm in Brantford, Ontario. It seems that Hammocking is taking southern Ontario by storm. I confess that I've been spreading the disease to every ground dweller that I come across including all of my camping buddies. I think that we're 3/6 now for Hammockers vs. Tenters in our Algonquin Group.
Dan.
P.S. I'm on the Hammock Forums Google Map! Don't forget to add yourselves Ontarians!
Hey...
As Entropy mentioned, we expect to be arriving in Bon Echo about noonish...
Just out of curiosity, for anybody who has hiked the trail, how far in is the campsite in hours?
Also, at this point, the weather is looking inclement. That group tarp and axe might go a long way...
What's the plan for the weekend anyways? Any fishing around our site?
Not certain I am going to get down there to meet this weekend. Might get a job coming thru.
The time it takes to get to the sites would depend on how fast you were hiking. From what I've been told by Bon Echo staff when I first called them is that it is a shorter hike to our sites by hiking the trail backwards. So at worst (since it is a loop) it is 8.5 km. I'm thinking more like 6 but that is a bit of an unkown. The map that Bon Echo provides of the trail will show this to be true.
The temps for the weekend look pleasant so far and there is only a 60% chance (at this point) of showers for Saturday.
See you all on Friday
Brian
At the moment there is no set plan. There is fishing available at the park, be sure to have your fishing license on hand. I can't say about any of the lakes on the trail we will be hiking. If you are coming anyway, pack your fishing gear in your car and inquire about it when you sign in at the park office.
One of the other people is bring a canoe to do some paddling and geocaching on Saturday.
Cheers
Brian
Just found this trip log from a while back..
Sang For those looking to backpack in Bon Echo, here's a bit of information after having just come back from this trip. We camped at site 528 (the better of the two on Abes Lake IMHO) and started the loop on the West side. It took about 2.5 hours to hike in and 1.75 hours to hike out. The entire time that we were there we saw two other groups of hikers and only on Loop 1.
Thx Sang..
