    WTB trekking poles

Hey everyone, im looking to buy pair of trekking poles, preferrably something that expands quite tall and packs down small, as I want to use them mainly for porch supports for my tarp. I've never used trekking poles before, so I don't have any strong preference, other than i'd like to keep the price somewhat reasonable, and maybe then ill get suckered in and buy something nicer down the road. thanks!

those things are junk. Spend some money and buy some Leki's. They'll be the only trekking poles you'll ever need to buy.

i wouldn't call them junk....i had a pair and they lasted me 2 years...and only paid $20 for them
only reason i don't use them is because i got a set of Leki's ...but they still work

i think for someone who doesn't have the money to spend on Leki's
    there a good choice
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold

If you just want tarp supports .... sticks from the woods are real cheap!
I have Black Diamond Flick-Locks .... love 'em. Got them for $80 at REI.
Hickery put some $17 poles to good use in the Linville gorge. They held. A bit heavy ... but they held.
    Good pole hunting!

+1 to the Walmart poles. I have used my for 3 years with no issue. The only reason I don't use them now is because I have a new pair of Black Diamond poles.

So you guys buy the Walmart poles then upgrade. Just spend the money on some good poles in the first place. Cheaper in the long run.

If you just want them for porch supports tieing off to trees or sticks works great. I actually find tieing off to other trees for porch mode is easier for me then poles or sticks. But in regards to hikeing poles any thing works. On the PCT documentary a girl was useing a hockey stick with an attached saw for an ice pick (it was very creative). Wally World poles are cheaper sturdy but heavier, Leki's are more expensive and lighter. The new flip locks are real nice on the Leki's and black diamond poles have them as well. Comfort of strap and handle are something to take into consideration as well. If I were to buy a new pair of poles now and had the money to get what I wanted Id get the leki flip lock poles.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.
