    Question Special Bugnet

    Hey everybody!

I just got infected by this nasty hammock-virus while planing my backpacking trip through Indonesia

While backpacking, weight is one of the most important factors for my setup.
My idea was to buy a sturdy, cheap hammock and use the bugnet I'm carrying for "normal" beds for my hammock to save the weight of an extra bugnet.
Few weeks ago, I receieved my Claytor "No net" and fell in love with it
Since then, I'm searching the internet for any instructions to use a regular bugnet without destroying it.
I don't have my bugnet yet, so if you have any suggestions what to buy and how to prepare it, I would be very thankful.

My plan was to take the net, cut a small hole in the top, put my suspension through and wrap the other end around my hammock - like a sock bugnet.
If it's neccessary, I'll sew in some zipper or something like that.
Anyone any ideas/howto's whatever to help me?

    Greetings,

    Martin

    ps: Yes, ridgeline is present.
ps #2: Yes, I noticed the suspension needs to be replaced

I've been playing around with a net recently for when I carry a different hammock to the BB.

The concept is fairly simple, just a net suspended from a ridgeline and then a weighted skirt around the bottom with poppers to close it up.

I did this diagram for somebody a couple of days ago, it might be of some use ..

Thanks for the quick resonse ;-)

Looks like a nice idea, but:

    1. I never mesaured it, but the website says that my hammock is about 3m long(ok, maybe less when ridgeline is in use) but even 2,7m seems a little long for a regular butnet. Or do you suggest not to buy one but to make the whole net?

    2. Have you tested the bottomsealing? I really don't want any of these Indonesian bugs in my hammock...

    Thanks,

    Martin

You could use zipper on the bottom for a sure closure.

    Sure - thanks...

Do you think there's a problem with the net touching the ground?

I am planning to sew a bugnet like this ,for my Nano-7 .
I bought the No-See-Um Mosquito netting from Ebay.

This type of net is the one I'm going for, I think.
    Good luck with your project

But this net is only useable for a hammock...
Most of the time I going to sleep in hostels or homestays or whatever - at least not in place where I can hang my hammock. In those places a bugnet for my bed is a must-have.

So if I find a way to make some sort of hammock-bugnet which can be unmounted and serve as bugnet for my bed...

I think I'm just going to go shopping in my favorite outdoor-store and see what they've got to offer...

    Any more ideas?

Good luck and watch out for snakes down there

I think you just have to experiment

Beds in Asia tend to be close to the floor.
So if you used that design, made it a bit bigger, put a loop in middle of the ridge at the top and put the zipper in bottom as suggested in post 4.

It may not be beautiful, but it would work, i think

I never bothered about snakes before, but at the last trip to Thailand we had a couple of close encounters read here.

That, made me Google "snakes in Thailand" and that didnīt calm me down
Just, make noise when walking in the jungle

    Hey,

by now, I think there's little hope to make my solution look not completely ***

But hey, I just don't have to forgett to remove the net before taking such nice pictures as you did

    @Snakes:
I made the experience, that if there are humans around, you should be worried about them at first
No, seriously, I think without sneaking around and a little common sense(and maybe a paddle), it needs very bad luck to get bitten...
    Let's hope the best.
