The leaves on the Aspens change in in sequence with altitude. Starting with the Peaks first moving down with time into the canyons.

Man, I miss that place. Raise a can of Spam around the fire (or stove) for me.

Is anyone still thinking about a fall hang in Arizona?

I know that this thread is focused on hiking the West Fork of Oak Creek. That is a trip that should definitely happen if there is interest. But, I have an additional thought, that might be useful.

I wonder how people would feel about a 2010 reprise of our Arizona hang at Canyon Creek? Remember last year in November 2009 we made a short hike into the Canyon Creek area? Our campsite was only a mile or so from the trail head. There was plenty of good water. The overall level of effort was low, and we had a great campfire with some good food.

Last year, the overnight temperatures in Canyon Creek dropped to the mid-teens in November. If we could make it in October, it might be a warmer trip. Current overnight temperatures range in the high 30's and low 40's.

In the alternative, I know that everyone's schedule is tight and Canyon Creek might actually work better as a spring hike. Either way, it is a nice area which could draw interest for another Arizona hang at some point in the future.

Again emphasizing, the Canyon Creek idea is not meant at all to suggest not going forward with an Oak Creek hang this fall. If Oak Creek is on, are there potential dates being considered?

canyon creek is nice. west fork is a must see however. and, equally impressive by my standards is west clear creek. the upper reaches following the maxwell or calloway trails take us into the mid twenties in october (6700')
that be a good time to test those Winter Coats.

    Hi Te-Wa:

Both of the Creek hikes (West Fork of Oak Creek or West Clear Creek) sound very good. I did check out both of the West Clear Creek trails (Maxwell and Calloway) on "Hike Arizona". Both look like good routes; at least on paper.

You have a great deal of knowledge. What is your preferred thought for the location of an Arizona fall hang.

    Do others have ideas?

I've caught 18" Trout in West Clear Creek, up toward the Tramway. Plenty of places to hang, swim, fish. Have an offer to come help with the I-10 bypass, would be real interested in a hang where ever, plenty of places in Az.

I would like to do west fork of oak creek; I've got three new hangers who'd like to join us but I could likely convince them to try clear creek too. My schedule is still fri/sat but that shouldn't impact the planning.

I'm a bit busy to plan anything but except for the 24-26th of September I should be able to attend a hang. I really dont care were it will be. I would gladly go back to west fork and would love to see it in the fall. Someone needs to grab the bull by the horns and plan a fall hang. Sounds like a few people are interested.
