I was asked about sway with this stand. I don't notice any sway, and the legs have never tipped up off the floor/ground. I've only had it on flat floors so far. An interesting thing I have noticed is that the hammock swings for a long time after I get into it, which I don't really mind. It's like there isn't much dampening effect to stop it going back and forth. It's the hammock that is swinging, not the stand. My friend mentioned it also, so it' not just me.

Shadowmoss--thanks so much for the update. I am seriously thinking about making one of these this wintertime.

Q: you mention that the fellow who made this for you was trying to make all lengths the same, but it would be better with a longer top bar, if I understand it properly. How long would be correct, would you say? And would the 1" pipe be structurally strong enough if you are to do that longer top bar? I really wonder about that.

Maybe because of the sleeves, but it is very solid. Originally we had thought that he was making a prototype to sell, but I wasn't sure folks would want it. I'm glad that as many of you have shown some interest as have. The part I would make a bit longer is the center one without a welded sleeve. The 10' length is as long as it can be and be used in my spare bedroom, and as long as I would want to use in my main bedroom. So, if I have center pipe of different lengths I can use it either way.

Both my Eno and the BB apparently need a minimum of 10', and with the suspension wrapped around the legs to get the maximum length it still isn't quite long enough.

Looks like he would have one piece left after cutting each pipe in 3 equal pieces. Two sections per leg 2*4=8. 3 sections on top. 8+3=11. If he made another section for the top out of the remaining piece you would have a 12' span.
The trees are drawing me near, I've got to find out why?

was he thinking of selling just the end pieces? then people could go out to get their own pipe to fit into them.
I would be interested in pricing on a set, these would be perfect for those camping sites that just do not have trees for hanging.

And moving it after set up is a slow process so the legs don't fall off. But, minor details compared to not having a stand to use in campgrounds that don't have trees.
Would it help this if you ran some shock cord (bungee cord) (not sure what this is normally called in the US) through the legs so that it has a tiny bit of tension in it when set up so that it holds the legs together? Hope that makes sense. Just like manufacturers do with tent poles.

I'd also be interested in a pair of the end pieces.

End pieces only... could be the ticket.

I love the look of this stand. When I did my variation of the Risk stand, I think my top bar was 15 feet. The minimum required for my HH Expl was 13 feet. so the 10 feet of Risk's stand would not do. Of course, that 13 foot minimum was probably because of the tarp, in part.
