I tied it up in the garage today, but it's WAY too big... I'm going to try the fly from my 2 person tent, but I don't think it's very flat... oh well.

Bobbin Tension - A Personal Viewpoint
When i first tried hammocking this is exactly what I did. I used the rainfly from a Eureka Timberline 4 tent. As others have said, it was heavy, but I was experimenting and not expecting this to be a long term solution. It worked great, I had to be a bit creative in pitching it due to the beaks, but it worked fantastically.
i thought about this the other day and started to post the exact question. i have a timberline 2 and a family tent. thanks for the replies and thoughts.

i am using this very idea for my set up as it just happened my old tent the mice got into but the fly which seems pretty light its made of ripstop as i can see the grids fits my diy hammock pretty good maybe a bit oh the small on the sides. It has done well so far in my back yard test.
Glad to hear that yours worked... I ended up buying some digital cammo nylon at WalMart from their $1.50 pile and sewing in some reinforcements and installing loops and grommets. It stuffs down small, is really light, and is big enough that I can bring the corners in for full enclosure. I did a water test and nothing went through, but I'm still thinking of giving it a shot of silicon waterproofing tonight.
Can someone steer me to a supplier that has a tarp with doors? I would like a tarp large enough to cook under and stay under comfortably on rainy days.
