    Noob question about footbox

In my browsing of the site, I've seen a few references to a "footbox" in the hammock. Maybe the warbonet black bird? I was wondering what this is, as I've never seen a pic or vid of the footbox with someone's feet inside it... I have an idea of what it is (keep your feet from hanging over the side), but wanted to know for sure...

I am using a Texsport Hobo II hammock. (it's basically just a gathered end hammock) I got it at Bass Pro Shop for $20.

Has anyone ever added a footbox to a hammock? Could I sew in a footbox to my hammock? Is there any point even messing with that?

    Thanks,
    RAW

The foot box is really not an added section on the hammock bed ... which is basically a gather end hammock. The beauty of it comes from the panel thats sewn over the section that makes it the footbox. Creating that pocket. Yeah you could actually add a footbox to a regular GE hammock.

I added a footbox to my first hammock. It started as a Speer style and ended up as my prototype for my DIY Blackbird. To add a footbox sew on a right triangle on the side you want your feet on. The hypotenuse becomes the new edge of the hammock. You triangle should have sides in the neighborhood of 30 to 32 inches. IMHO It also helps to change the whipping style to the Warbonnet method.

    No.

The Black Bird is the only hammock that has that design feature. At least that I am aware of.

odds- thanks for the video link. It makes a lot more sense now...

Shug- my hammock doesn't have whipping, (I'll see if I can attach a picture) so I don't think that would work for my current setup...

Maybe I can make a DIY hammock with a footbox built-in.

I'm visualizing my next DIY project already... Thanks guys!

Actually I would say that you could change that to the WB whipping. Use that channel to make the whipped end. You can then run your ridgeline through the doughnut shape that you created. Use a larks head knot to attach your suspension line just on the other side of your "doughnut".

A footbox may also refer to a sewn, zippered, or velcroed compartment in a top quilt that you put your feet in.
