Adirondaks Bog River and Lows Lake

Lows Lake and the Bog River are the result of the loging industry 100 years ago. Two dams, the lower dam creating the Bog river, and an upper dam creating Lows Lake.
Most of the land is part of the Adirondak Park with about 39 designated Primitive sites. There is private land, that is for the most part posted, I just looked for the designated sites. On the lake itself there is a loon preserve, which makes for a beautiful sounding night.

I started the trip on tuesday. Stoped early due to what sounded like a thunder storm. After dinner listened to about 100+ mosquitoes on the out side of my hammock. I tried to record the sound on video on my camera, but there was electronic noise and I could bairly hear the moskis.

The first portage was uneventful except after I brougt my gear the 500' or so to the upper dam(which included my camera). I then went back to get my kayak and there in the Bog river were two loons not 20' away, did I mention my camera is in my gear. I ask if they can wait for me to get my camera, one of them chirped and sounded like it said "no", oh well get on with it.
Packing the kayak was a minor inconvenience but getting a pack canoe would be a plus. Got under way and stopped at site 12 for the night, a little early but hey I'm on vacation.
Paddled to the end of the lake. Going thru the loon preserve, the little ones are cute, and can dive like there parents. I had lunch at grass pond at the end of the lake and then started back spending the night at site 17. A brood of Canadian geese kept me company. I also dumped my kayak and got my camera wet, so no more pictures, not that there was that many.

Cool trip report Veto. Looks like some really nice spots.

I'm hoping to get out in the ADK's more in the future. I'll have to remember to follow your trip reports for some further ideas.

Katadyn Base Camp. It worked great until the last day when it started to slow down. The water was right out of the lake so there was a lot of organic matter that it was filtering.
