As much WM ripstop as I have, he will most likely, but I'm gonna wait until I have a good idea of how big he's really gonna get. Plus he and my wifes new pup will be carrying most of their own loads once they get mature enough, I usually have enough water for two people anyway, so he'll just have to carry his bowls, blanket (trimmed down to minumum of course) and food plus a few treats.

I'm thinking about making a bug net with a tent type floor that lays on the ground under my hammock and ties out in the corners, and inventing some sort of permethrin treated doggie flap he can go in and out of.

Him being an Aussie, as he grows his undercoat will adjust itself to the Alabama climate and he should thin out a decent amount, so heat shouldn't be a huge issue as long as I take him hiking around water. I don't hike in real hot weather anyway. But I will kayak camp in a heart beat. He'll fit great in front of me in my Pungo!

I really think a ground option is best for dogs. Maybe a suspended to the ground screen they can get under and back out of or something.. I'll figure it out. With a hammock near or under mine I could see my buddy getting in and out, and moving around all night and disturbing my peaceful sleep. If I wanted disturbed sleep I'd still be on the ground lol.

A Small tarped hammock of his own just might be workable though.... I dunno lol.

Back in the day ... 70's to be exact ... I use to hike and camp with my dog Henry (a beagle) We slept in a tent ... shutter ... but Henry as a bit gassy ... even compared to me!
A local outdoor equipment store had a mini display tent they got from some company and I talked them into selling it to me ... perfect size for Henry and he loved it. Guess they now have small tents for dogs . But back then they didn't.

Anyway Henry is long gone ... miss that old farty dog!

In theory, you could do a diy bug net in similar fashion to the WB Travler net. If you switch to a travler (or just double net your WBBB?) and sew a round bug net that you can put your hammock in and is big enough that it lays on the ground so your dog can fit/crawl in side it as well as a pad and you put a zipper on it that could work possibly. Essentially a big round zipper bug net. Dont know if it would work but just an ideah. It would proballly be lighter then a tent id assume. I usually dont take my dog out on packing trips in the extreme heat or cold and if I do its usually a car trip where im sleeping in a tent any ways.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

    Thanks for the Good Ideas

Thanks so much for your help! I think a dog tent (who knew?) will be the best solution. Ahhh-happy anticipation of guilt free hammock backpacking....

I got one for taking her to the beach but she hates getting in it so much that I just took her big metal crate with us. Also the holes are bigger than mosquito net but thats easy to solve. Maybe I will try again to get her used to getting inside it
