    Spinn UL vs Silnylon

Trying to weigh pros and cons of each. So far, this is what I "think" I know. Please set me straight before I spend $150-$200.

    Spinn UL
+ lighter weight compared to silnylon
+ does not stretch when wet
+ doesn't need any sort of shock cord pretensioners when rigging
    - Noisier than silnylon

    Silnylon
    + less expensive
    - heavier than Spinn UL
    - Stretches out and works best when pitched with some sort of pre-tensioner (shock cord).

I'm assuming that both are equal in protecting from the rain, packability, and durability.

    Please comment,

Sil usually packs down smaller than spinn.

Once you get a tight pitch, I hear that Spinn isn't any noisier than sil. It's only the packing/unpacking that's more crinkly.

Sil definitely packs down easier than spin... But the noise really isnt an issue after a few outings. I had my concerns about the noise early on but on the 3rd night it was much less noiser and now I cant even tell the difference.

I think it's money well spent on my OES Deluxe in Spinn.

Ditto. Mine was definitely noisy when I first got it and very hard to pack down, now that I've "broken it in" after several times, it isn't nearly as noisy and packs down a lot smaller... still not as much as sil, but definitely more than before.

may want to look at cuben too, it's even lighter then spinn. Though I don't know any of the pros and cons. Just saying you might want to look into it befor you pull the trigger. I even think Brian at OES is offering it now.

Is one easier to pitch than the other? Is the Spinn easier because you don't have to worry about stretching?

No difference in pitching in my opinion. Sil just stretches after it is pitched so you will see a slight sag by morning without tensioners.

OES is not offering cuben tarps yet, but he's prototyping and will begin offering them when he gets his new designs dialed in.

Thats some good info , I was about to bite the bullet on an OES Spin UL (either standard or delux) but now I may just try and hold out for a cuben, oohh thats going to be hard Im just going to want both , And If you have the extra money to buy a Spinn tarp IMHO you might as well, I cant think of to many if any disadvantages besides it being more expensive.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.
