Have Switchback, now want WBBB for shorties

I went kayak river camping over the Memorial Day weekend (Wekiva River, FL) and used my gorgeous Switchback. I love it and it was sooo comfortable.

I opted for the 1.7 (?) double because of an extra layer to (hopefully) prevent mosquito bites thru a single layer of fabric and in case I had to go to the ground. (Actually, I took a small tent, in case. no problem in a kayak.)

I used Scott's (BWDD) 4-season 10 x12 rectangular tarp in Navy and it worked great. I used red mini-biners to close the end grommets and a yellow mini-biner to close the center loops. I had Opie's tarp ridgeline, which also worked great. The mini-biners keep the tarp from flying around. Once the tarp was up, I released the biners, opened up the tarp, and staked/tied the tarp corners.

The main problem I had with the SB was that I'm so short (5' 0") that I couldn't reach the pockets. I'll have to make some pocket extensions or attach some pockets lower down.

The second problem is that I'm carrying a lot of unnecessary fabric, not a problem in a kayak, but I want another less bulky and less weight set-up.

Lastly, this hammock requires a large tarp and I want a smaller one.

So, Brandon, are you up to reducing a couple of feet from the center of a Blackbonnet?

I know that if I ordered one (I want the 1.1 single), I'd be sleeping in the center and not be able to reach either the footbox OR the shelf. In the SB, the pockets (one at each end) are waaaay up there because of the hang.

Hopefully there will be other vertically challenged hangers (or folk who'd like to buy for their spouse/SO/kids) who will support me with this request.

It seems that you'd just have to make another pattern that is shortened in the middle. PLEEEEEEEASE

I know that greenlespaul will buy your WBBB 1.7. He has been looking all week to get one for his vacation next week.

lol No, I don't want to sell my tarp - it's awesome. I had Scott sew in the tie-out thingees as well.

It's a Switchback I have, not a WBBB 1.7..I intend to keep this set-up for kayak river camping where weight/bulk is not an issue.

sandykayak, I'm a short (5'4") 1.1sl WBBB user. No issues with the length or reaching for items in the shelf area.

thanks for that info...My dr. says I've shrunk an inch, so that would make be 5" shorter than you!!

actually, I was looking at the video of the BB yesterday and the bulk of the pack looks about the same as my switchback.

I've just looked at the Traveler info (need to see if there's a photo of the packed size) and maybe that with his bugnet might be smaller/lighter.

I have a double Treklight and the pack is fairly small, so maybe just a bugnet. It's just that ya'll go on and on about how fabulous the BB is...wish I could try one out before ordering.

If you bought one to try, I can't imagine you would have any problems selling later on.
