Follow-up question: For weight-reduction purposes, I assume you're not running shock cord all the way out to the stakes. I think there's a length of shock cord sheet bended to a length of regular tarp line.

Is there a consensus of what length of shock cord is needed? I was speculating that 2-3 feet would be adequate.

Good point, I never thought of that. I was assuming 4-5 feet would be needed. What is everyone else using?

Our good buddy Hawkeye did a nice video of one way to go them that I think looks interesting---he says about 18 inches.

Sorry, I don't think I was being clear in my original post. I'm talking about the tarp pullouts mentioned in Shug's video at 6:33 on Part 5 of his Hammock How tos:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dz4H0...ayer_embedded#!

    Not tarp tensioners.

The shock cords I installed on tarp from MountainFitter were about 4 feet long, and I take them all the way to the stakes. No other cord on the tarp right now but the shock cords. Worked fantastically in the rain two nights!
