Great report! I started hiking with my daughter when she was fourteen, and this fall we will celebrate our 10th annual hike together on Cumberland Island. Even though she's now 24 and almost done with Grad school, it's still a highlight of the year for both of us!
May you and Bug-bait and later on your younger daughter hike together for MANY more years!

Thank you everyone I had a great time backpacking and I hope to have alot more fun.
Muskrat, I enjoyed your trip report. I'm glad you and Emma had a great time. I got a chuckle when I saw the first picture of Emma's shoes. I had planned a hike to Linville Gorge, but had to cancel when my son got sick. Later in the day, he felt better, so we made a quick trip to a waterfall about an hour from our house. I realized too late that my youngest son had on flip flops, so I bought him a pair of cheap tennis shoes on the way. They now look like they are about a year old. I couldn't help but notice how white Emma's tennis shoes were at the start of your trip. Did they stay that way?
Congrats on your successful trip! I hope she'll always have a love for the outdoors because of your efforts.

Ha! I'm sure you could have bet on that answer. Although as dry as it was they were cleaner than I expected them to be. Momma put them through the wash machine the other day . . .
oooops ! I think I was suppose to get them out and set them somewhere to dry! Daggumit ! ! ! Guess I better set the hammock up in the backyard, I might be sleeping with the dogs tonight.

Thanks for sharing! I've got three daughters and it warms my heart to read and see photos of other dads and daughters doing things together. My youngest is 22 now and has hiked over 100 miles of the AT. Last summer she took off on her own and hiked Amicalola-to-Neels Gap on her own. My middle daughter thru-hiked the AT in '04. My oldest lives in DC and hikes the AT in the Shenandoah National Park. My wife section-hikes the AT with me occasionally. Girls rock!

Great report, Muskrat. I want to take my youngest, Bearbait (7), sometime soon on an overnight. My other daughter, CHG(10), isn't really into it so I get the next in line.
Looking forward to meeting ya' next weekend!

Are you taking BugBomb, er I mean, BugBait to Goat Island?
No . . . she and momma are headed to PA for a gymnastics camp for all next week. Just hit the road about 30 minutes ago, they are heading to DC tonight, do a little sightseeing tomorrow and Sat morning before completing the rest of their drive to the camp. Thought about bringing Lila (7) but she got an invite for a sleepover birthday party for Sat evening. Gram and Doc are going to be watching over her on Friday . . .
Thanks Gram & Doc !
