    Home made Mess-up

    Hi all,
i thought i'd try and make a camping hammock...Went and bought me some fabric (polyester/nylon...dunno exactly) and thought i'd quickly seem it all around, whip it, hang my home made whoopie slings (unemployed so i have to something...right?) on it and chill in the garden and take it for hiking.

The problem is that when i hang it i'll have the middle section of the hangmat very tense and on the sides it's sloppy...i tried to pose myself diagonal but that didn't help alot..
the hammock is 2.5m long by 1.5m wide...Can i fix this or is it hopeless and should i buy a DD Hammock for my hiking weekend i have coming up?

Undo the whipping and try again .... took me several tries to get it where I liked it.
    It is easy to re-do.

Yah, sounds like another go at doing the whipping a different way. Play with pulling the edges back more when you whip it and that should help with the loose/floppy stuff.

Maybe try whipping it like Just Jeff demonstrates on his web page by pulling the edges out a few inches. http://www.tothewoods.net/HomemadeHammock2.html

2.5m (8.2') is pretty short. Maybe that's coming into play?

i pulled out the edges, will try it like the DD hammocks are done 2morrow...
it's actually 5m long but i doubled it so i can slide in some insulation in the winter and i'll need some insulation on the feet now as wel actually as my sleeping bag has a pad inserted but it stops at the knees..

Could it have something to do with the fact that you folded it? maybe it work better if it was cut into two pieces. But I have never made a double layer before so maybe a more experienced diy'er could chime in.

i took the sewing apart and folded it out. Now i have a 3m long hammock with a 2m long "blanket" on the top where i can either put a sleeping mat under or crawl under myself but that won't do all that much...
i sewed 2 tubes and put my rope through, it's much more comfy now...
BUT now i see that where i GRAB the fabric the weaving comes apart so eventually i'll pull holes in the fabric...
For now though i'm going to use it..it's strong enough to carry my weight and it'll be a good prototype...we considered stiching the "blankie" on both sides to the hammock and putting pads underneat before getting in but for now it's only stitched on 1 side...
Anyhow, i'll test it out this week and next week as much as possible before going hiking so i know upsides and downsides but i think this should work perfectly actually...it's much more comfy now so thx for the hints
