The benefit of dri ducks is that it is one of the best breathing fabrics you can buy. A straight vapor barrier will result in your perspiration being trapped in your UQ. That is in part why JRB discontinued their previous weathershield made of sil with a strip of dwr in the middle.
8.5 ounces sounds heavy, but when you consider that it will add 5-10 degrees of warmth while keeping your UQ dry, it's really not a bad trade-off. Some have used the dri ducks alone in warmer conditions just to add some warmth. The weathershield can also hold loose items between the hammock and the shield to yield even more insulation.
Its a good bowl to rattle around in.

A non breathable, read sil or cuban, is a moisture trap that will soak the quilt with repeated field use... We have not found a breathable WP material lighter than two ply microporus polypropelene (same stuff as in DDP).... Nor less cost than DDP.
