    scouter from Michigan

Just wanted to say hi. Took our boy scout high adventure patrol on a 20 mile backpack trek this past weekend. Slept for a couple hours in my ground bivy tent. Took my 1980 fishnet hammock I bought as a kid that I found at may dads going through his stuff last fall after he passed away. I was the envy of everyone on the trek as I was able to relax comfortably during the day. Not setup for sleeping and skeeters. While better, it was not great and decided to invest in my comfort. Bought a ENO double nest and slap strap pro straps. Keeping the doublenest, taking back the slap strap pro's...tooo stretchy. Joined here last night and learning about options for suspension systems. Right now using seat belt material in the backyard, works fine just need something a little more portable and light weight. Anyway thanks for the forum and the knowledge already gained. Looking forward to more learning.

    best regards,

    tree

Arrowhead Equipment is a great source for your suspension bits. Paul Gibson will set you straight and do you right!

    Welcome fellow scouter.
There are a lot of scouters here on HF. I'm writing this while in my hammock at scout camp(Camp Tahquitz)
I started with a ENO DN.
    Good luck and have fun.
Tortoise never for a moment stopped, but went on with a slow but steady pace straight to the end of the course.

Stan we hiked the North Country Trail and Manistee River Trail loop near Messick/Cadillac. Really a beautiful piece of country. Thanks for all the welcomes. Glad to see there are a lot of scouters too. My troop is part of the Blue Water Council in Port Huron.

    Manistee River trail loop question

When you say NCT, Manistee River trail Loop, do you mean the trail between Marilla Trailhead (Northern end), and the Red Bridge Access (Southern end)? Did you follow the NCT on the West side of the Manistee River, cross over Manistee River and then hike the Manistee River Trail (which is not the actual NCT) on the East side of Manistee River?

The reason I ask is because, there seems to be some confusion amongst people when they talk about hiking the NCT in the area. Without specific trailhead information it is not capable to pinpoint the actual trail hiked. The NCT has many connector trails and without specific location data it can be difficult sometimes.

    Thank you and Happy trails,

Your right. We hiked the NCT from red bridge trailhead north to the MRT little mac bridge and south on the MRT back to start. 20 mile loop or so they say. We figure 9 miles on day one. 8miles on day two and hiked out Sun morning. Hope that clears up our trek. I have always heard it referred to as the NCT MRT loop.

    Hey Tree,
    thanks for the quick response.
You are absolutely correct in saying the whole and proper trail name/description.
But so many times people aren't specific in saying the whole name that it can lead to mass confusion.

I have actually experienced three people talking about thier hike along the Manistee River and they think they are talking about the same trail, but in actuality they are talking about three different spots.
