Zipperstop also sells custom lengths. Hawk-eye could you please give us a tuorial on making a seperating zipper from coil stock? Thought they needed a special end or something. Maybe its a two way seperating I'm thinking of.

You leave one side of the zipper tape longer than the other. Install the slider and the crimp the end coils on the long end. The slider moves off the short end but does not fall off because of the crimp. At that point you reinsert the other side of the tape as you did on the original installation. It is a bit of a pain and if the short coil ends gets damaged you will need to cut it off. But it works.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

What he said ... and Quest also sells the little metal clips to lock off the ends of the zipper once it's set. I've done about a half dozen of them and haven't had a problem yet ... really pretty easy ... IMHO.

The stops are useful but IMO a pain to put on. I have absolutely awful finger dexterity. A few wraps with a needle and thread will do to clog up the coil and prevent the slider from slipping off. Anything make an impassable obstacle will do it.

Yeah that's a fact ... but they actually make a tool for that ... I've not found one ... well never really looked ... Mom actually has one. Last time I used them I borrowed her's.

Thanks everyone for the awesome suggestions. Dutch, thanks for the offer, but I think if I go with a white zipper I am going to get the 264" #5 I linked to above.

Gargoyle, I was already planning on sewing in a foot or so of fabric on the ends to bring the zipper away from the gathered end. However, I hadn't thought of the velcro idea, I love it! I think that is going to be the plan, zip entry on either side (probably using a sleeping bag sized zipper) and velcro at the ends to remove.

Gonna be time for a fabric buy soon.....
