I am 210#'s and I use a double layer of 1.1 for my setup. It is so light, I just couldn't see not using it for the extra strength and durability.

How do you know if it's 1.1oz or 1.9oz?
I picked up some ripstop nylon at Hancocks, and I didn't see it listed on the end cap, and the teenagers who work there looked at me funny when I asked. That *may* have been just my appearance, though. I didn't see too many tattooed & bearded guys in there
At 5'9" 165#, I should be ok, but I believe in overengineering
Weigh it. Just figure out how many square yards you have in that piece, weigh it, and divide the weight by the area. The fabric is probably 60" wide, so it's easiest to convert to square inches first.
Or just find some other ripstop to compare it to...like a lightweight tarp at REI.
FWIW, I've only seen 1.9 oz in "normal" fabric stores like JoAnns and Hancock, but I haven't done extensive research on it.

IMPOSSIBLE JUST TAKES LONGER
Once you've handled both 1.1 and 1.7 the difference is pretty obvious. The 1.1 just feels lighter and thinner than most any other nylon you may have touched.

I have 2 DIY 1.1oz hammocks. One is very breathable, white and somewhat stretchy. The other has almost no stretch (160lbs. and 6'3") I think I payed $2 for the entire bolt, 14+ yards at Walmart. I'm using it both as my hammock and I've siled it for my tarp.
I'm happy to hear there are others heavier then I am hanging on it. Everyone I know looks at me like I'm crazy.
I have a double layer of 1.1 Nylon Ripstop Tafetta from Wally World at $1.50 per yard ($12 for enough to make a double layer). And a single layer with the same material.
Me and my girlfriend have both sat in the single layer together on the porch one day. It did seem scary at first, with a combined weight of about 290. It held fine, and stretched very little, and we were able to get comfy.
There were some stress stretches on it afterward where it appeared that the fabric had stretched and was unable to contract back to normal, but after a couple of days they had apparently tightened back up on their own. I'm keeping a close eye on it regardless, don't wanna tailbone a root.
Yep, a single layer 1.1 should do you just fine. For summer camping I'm making several 1.1 single layer hammocks for me and friends.
