    Doing It Yourself . . .

OK . . . You want to do it yourself. I am 5 foot 8 and weigh 250 pounds. Oh my God! If I were planning to make a hammock, what fabric do I need and what are the dimensions of the fabric? The ends? Gathered? I like the ends of the HH. How are their ends constructed? Is there a place on the net to get a pattern?

I have already made some whoopie slings from Youtube video instruction. I am beginning to see that homemade is interesting . . . hey! I did it myself.

I have learned so much from this forum. I know that with a bit of help, I can accomplish the goal of doing it myself for some things. Thanks guys . . . and gals. Looking forward to the responses.

For a DIY hammock, I'd recommend a simple end-gathered one as the first project. When you're comfortable with that, then try the DIY HH plans here.

For 250lbs, you might try a 1.7 oz/yd weight of nylon, or even a double layer.

I am 280 and I have made a number of the gathered end hammocks using the Joanns rip stop nylon which I believe is 1.9oz without any problems.
