why not just drill a hole through the pipe,and put the pipe between the 2x6's,unflattened,then carraige bolt all the way through.you would have one less fail point.if you put one pivot point lower then the other you could fold both pipes down between the 2x6 for storage.
this thing will be tippy.there will be a lot of leverage stress at the 2x6 to 2x4 foot connect area

That's what I'll do if I do a pipe stand. Meaning just drill through it "as is".

I'm working through all these options and will finally build one on Thursday night. I've arranged to go over to my dad's shop and do one. He will enjoy it and so will I.

You might find some square steel tubing that could be used for ends..drill that, and you'd have something. Mic your poles...I may have something in the scrap pile that will fit.

Square tubing, find idea! I could turn it 45 deg so the flat surfaces would not be taking the stress.

You are right! I've purchased from them before and it was a good transaction. I purchased some poles to make some batting cages and I noticed they did a good job cutting to my length. I'll call them and get some prices. I don't want to turn what could be a $25 stand into a $250 stand.

Well you really have me interested in this stand. Im dying to see some pictures. I may or may not try to cobble an all wood (except for pipe for the arms to hinge on) version of this together this weekend. Or not. Depends on what the wife has going on. I would be using 2mm dynaglide and some old 2x4's I have lying around and some drywall screws. Not that i would recommend doing it this way but its what I have. Cheap and quick. If it works out maybe I can make a more permanent stand later. I know the rules. If there are no pictures it never happened.

I hope you meant Wondermonkey because mine was nothing but wishful thinking. My honeydo list is so long I may never get a free chance to build. Ok some day but unfortunately not soon.
