    Greetings from the swedish forests..

Hope this is the right place for this post....

We did a little hike this weekend the lad and I, not to far, just enough to be a bit alone.
We went out to a little lake nearby.

He used my DD Traveller and i tested an idea i have had for a while, a "sleeping system" for about 30$ (200 Sek)

Our Packs, guess wich is his and wich is mine..

Ready for the wilderness, Victorinox Champ and a knife he made himself in the belt.

A couple of pictures of the knife, bought as a kit, but he fitted it together, polished, oiled it and cut out and sewn together the sheath himself.
    A good blade.

Dad with a metric pantload of stuff in the belt and some bad habits.

Rigging the DD Hammock. (So easy a kid can do it!)

Fabrication of sticks for the mosqito net.

    Lots and lots of fabrication....

...shoesticks is for example a must...

Dad had to help out a bit tho, you cant reach everywhere when your'e just 4.5 feet.
Closeup of how we fastened the tarp to the ridgeline.

Dead stump easyly removed with the amazing swedish pocketsaw.

    My "sleeping system"

Everything wrapped up in a good wool blanket.

Blanket, large tarp, small tarp, tentpegs, rope and some thinner line.
Meant to be used differently depending on the situation.

    Large tarp rigged as hammock.

Up and ready. The smaller tarp was a little bit to small as a roof, but it worked fine even tho we got some rain during the night.
I was pretty well of anyway with all wool and good leather clothing. No darn newfangled gortex stuff here..

When the camp was up a small feast was served.

The lads dinner, Pasta bolognese, got 4 out of 5 titanium sporks.

Dads dinner, curry chicken, wasnt that exiting, but with the right seasoning it went down fine..

    view over the lake.

A bag of sweets and Harry potter in the hammock...

Proof that my improvised hammock managed my 220 lbs without a problem.

We had a really nice time even tho the weather got bad during the night, and we got to do a few experiments and test some gear out
    Highly reckommended.

    //Klang

PS. I saw now that some other gear got in the pics without description, but if you want to know something feel free to ask. DS.

Looks like a great time! Your son will always remember these trips! "Yah, the old man used to take me out in the woods and string me up in a hammock when I was little. I thought he was crazy then. Now I know he was!"

Looks like you and your son had a fine time. Those are memories that you will both cherish. The lad did a fine job on his knife and sheath. We appreciate you sharing with us.

We had from about 20C (68F) in the evening down to 10C (50F) and rain in the early morning.

    Hi Theladon

I can't believe you made your son carry the heavy pack and cut all the firewood!

    Only joking ,

Looks like you had a good outing, I loved Sweden when I visited a while back.

    Good choice of hammock, BTW.

Looks like a great trip! Nice pics, and great job on the Brusletta!

I often take my oldest son camping, fishing etc - it doesn't get any better than that!

Are you into bushcraft by any chance? The belt pouches and sturdy leather pants looks a lot like something out of bushcraftuk.com.

BTW.. I'm curious to know the make and model of your backpack. I'm guessing that your son doesn't lug the big green pack around

Very much into bushcraft. If you look at the last pic or on top of the pack you'll see the leather shirt that go with the pants. Got bloody tired of expensive goretex stuff breaking when i needed it most. I'll break long before these clothes do. Combined with real wool underneath i'll handle any weather we get here.
You have to take care of it tho, keep it greased up good and you'll stay dry and warm.

The backpack, well, to be honest i dont know the make and model. It's like a Berghaus rocketpack, but smaller, just 60+10+10 liters. really sturdy pack bought at www.surplus.se as an italian army backpack. think it cost me about 400-450 swedish (about 60$) Has taken alot of abuse and still works fine.
