Hello to all. I have watched the HF site for some time and have thoroughly enjoyed the great advice and generosity of its members. A really fine site...thanks!
I live in Summerville SC and do most of my backpacking in the mountains of upper SC, Pisgah NF (NC) and Chattahoochee NF (GA), with a couple of small nips at the AT. Might try a bigger chunk this coming year.
Have just gotten back into backpacking over the past couple of years. I was a Boy Scout many years ago, camped with my two sons when they were boys (now grown and gone) and, after its own fashion, the military (retired USNR...Navy Seabees). After a long hiatus, I now find myself sufficiently retired to have the time to go play in the woods, which business never seemed to let me do on a regular basis.
I spent a fair amount of time on the ground over the years but quickly gravitated to hammock camping. Much easier on my aging back and sensible in just about every way. The only thing I still haven't completely nailed to my satisfaction is cold weather hanging, but I just got the HH Supershelter system and will see how that does this winter.
The posts all of you make take a lot of the guesswork out of fine tuning gear and techniques. I look forward to participating in the forum. Thanks again!
