I've got some of the material you're talking about...definatly not silnylon. I think we decided it was urethane coated ripstop.

It is extremely heavy, but it is also very durable and waterproof. I field tested my DIY tarp made of the stuff for a full week a couple days ago at Camp Daniel Boone in NC. This included heavy rain everyday of the week. It also stayed very taut without SLT's and held up great in the direct sunlight or the pouring rain.

Hopefully the guy you bought from will give back some of your $$.

That's good to know. I was afraid this might be too stretchy. I'd prefer taut over constantly having to adjust, and I'll deal with the weight (for now) if it does it's job well.

I hope to start sewing on it this week!

My tarp out of Urethane coated rip performed fine in a torrential rain on a canoe camping trip. Hey it is still only about 1 lb more than sil. I seam sealed with a water based urethane coating not sil-net.
The trees are drawing me near, I've got to find out why?

I would concur, definitely not sil.
The stuff I had at the Spring SEHHA was from here, but seems to be the same stuff as the wally world urethane coated. I made a poncho out of the stuff.

It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Formerly known as Acercanto, my trail name is MacGuyver to some, and Pucker Factor to others.
