New to Grand Trunk - SBP

I recently picked up a SBP. Got a pretty good night sleep with it last weekend. A few observations:

Suspension is too short and not usable (had to use some ENO pro slap straps, which sucked but that's for another forum)

Elastic cord for bug net has frayed in several spots from the bark chewing it up.

Little pockets in the netting on the inside are coming un-sewn.

What is everyone's preferred hanging method for this model and suspension.

I am curious how I can improve this hammock.

I believe Grizzlyadams modded his with an internal ridgeline (click for link) eliminating the need for the elastic cord.

You can get straps and whoopie slings from AHE and other various sources for the suspension. If you don't mind the weight and bulk, you can't get easier than a ring buckle or cinch buckle webbing suspension.

I don't like pockets on the netting - seems too flimsy. A peak bag or ridgeline organizer from 2QZQ (if you mod it for the ridgeline) would be better for storage options.

Let us know what you decide to do! Good luck!

I swapped out the suspension system entirely on my SBPro. S-hooks out for aluminum descender rings. Knotted worthless cordage out for 1inch heavyweight poly pro webbing. Then added the lightest caribiners I was willing to pay for to complete the setup. I haven't yet done anything about a ridgeline, but I'm thinking of buying an adjustable setup from Opie in the near future. The pockets in the netting are darn near worthless for anything other than maybe a tube of chapstick.

I use tree straps and whoopie slings from Arrow Head and completely removed the S-hooks. I'm experimenting with other ways to suspend the netting. As for the little pockets on the netting, I keep my ear plugs in them. everything else goes in the stuff sack/pocket.

I'm really thinking hard about a ridge line. It would add functionality to the hammock that it lacks right now.

I use tree huggers w/ marlin spike hitch and the original suspension cordage. I also made my own version of Grand Trunk tree sling out of some strap I had laying around.

Good info, I decided to try the JRB strap system. Looking for some lighter weight biners. Ridgeline is another issue I need to figure out. A single line is what I am after.

You can do this method with a single line. Have the single line pass through the holes and then have the suspension line go through a fixed loop at the end of your ridgeline.

Treklightgear has some nice light biners, or go with a dutch clip. Dutch clips are awesome.
