    Light weight Tarp Advise

Hey guys, normally I'd have the answer to this question but it's a bit more than I could handle. My daughter (the NAVY girl) is deployed right now. I don't know where, she can't tell me (she's CTI). Anyways she e-mailed me and asked about a sub 5 pound survival kit. She has to wear a vest and certain items are already included on that. She says she is not supposed to pack any items in an additional backpack but that she could get away with a small, just sling over her back type bag.
One thing she does need is a tarp, it has to be either brown, green or camo. She didn't mention black. I first though about either spinn or cuben because of the weight but then I thought of how loud they are and she needs to be as "stealthy" as possible. She will not be able to carry a hammock so it only needs to really protect her. (and maybe be a rain collector). Also it needs to use as few stakes as possible for min. set up. (I'm still gonna try to talk her into getting off the ground)

I need your best suggestions for me to look into and report back to her. Thanks,
    TinaLouise

Cuben fiber isn't loud once it's been stuffed a time or two, but the color restrictions may eliminate it. The "green" cuben is very pale. Still, it compresses really well. A square tarp (maybe 9' x 9') pitched on the diagonal would only need two stakes, and would have room for a hammock underneath (if you can talk her into it). A real minimalist tarp would use a single piece of cuben 54" x 102", also pitched on the diagonal, and there'd still be room for a hammock.

the JRB 8x8 tarps would work well because of the small size, but they seem to be out of stock

DriDucks Poncho in sand color would be my suggestion. Extremely light and blends well with the terrain our military is currently in. I think I paid about $8 for mine.
