Realizing the Structural Ridgeline is not that important to me.

I have an SRL on my ENO and of course my WB's have them. I have been doing a lot of exploring in my city, various parks and wooded areas and so I have been using my ENO and Traveler a lot.

The SRL is great for hanging gear and is useful for trees that are far apart where I cannot get the straps high enough on the trees to attain the proper 30 degree angle. Last night I tried loosening and tightening it for different sag angles and I found it comfortable in all the different sags I tried. \for me the SRL also gets in the way sometime if I want to sit or lay perpendicular. I think I may try using it without the SRL and maybe just carry it in case I need it. I'll see how often (if ever) I end up putting it back on. I think I got so focused on getting the perceived ideal SRL length (.83) that I forgot to focus on simply how it feels.

Anyone here ditch their SRL's or anyone here can't live without them? I have read some members say even an inch or two can make a difference but I am unable to tell the difference.

(EDIT: I mean to say the SRL is not that important to me and not as a general statement.)

I prefer one because I like to hang a lot of stuff from it in camp.

Some folks make their SRL removable by putting a small biner on one end, then when they want to sit or lay perpendicular they can just take it down from that end and put it out of the way... (thinking Hennessy's in particular here).

I prefer to have one for the same reasons as NCPatrick. Not so much to assure the perfect amount of sag. I haven't found that an inch or two matters in my comfort. But everyone is different in all we do so it doesn't surprise me that an inch or two can matter in a person's comfortable hang. So I'd have to respectably disagree the ridgeline doesn't matter as a general statement.

I like mine and almost always have one. Plus I use it to hang stuff from. As soon as I set up camp, I either put my headlamp around my neck or hang it in the RL. At night, it's right above my chest on the RL.

I have hammocks with them, and I have hammocks without them. I can almost always get comfortable in a hammock and don't have to rely on a SRL to get my hammock that way. I can usually tell by 'looking' at it. That being said, they are very useful as a guideline to get it where it needs to be, and some people have adjustable ones for tweaking a setup one way or another. I find them useful to hang stuff off of (my glasses and headlamp) and prefer to have one on my hammock when I will be sleeping outdoors for that very reason. Comfort is a highly subjective and personal thing. What works for me may not work for you.

I am new to hanging, I also like the SRL to keep the critter net off me. Additionally, as mentioned above to hang my headlamp, Ipod and small ditty bag with note pad, reading material, map, etc that way there is no fumbling in the dark or waking up to that painful feeling of sleeping on your headlamp (although this does bring back memories of being a ground dweller which in turn makes me appreciate hanging even more).

I've done a removable/adjustable ridgeline. Using a nacrabiner would be an excellent option for attaching the removable ridgeline. (thanks Sgt. Rock for showing that)
But with my attached bugnet hammocks, when I've removed the ridgeline, and sit perpendicular, the netting gets stressed. I would think the WBBB would do the same.?

Like the others, I prefer a SRL and do hang a small light and other goodies from it. Plus it gives you a place to hang your 2Q & ZQ Ridgeline Pocket Organizer

I like the ridgeline. It makes getting the sag easier, even if one end is higher then the othe. Also, like others have said, hanging things. I hang my headlamp from it, use the HH's ditty bag for my glasses, hang my socks there to air out, and have a small, rectangular mesh bag for my knife, flashlight, etc.
