Sounds like it would be fun, not but about 1.5 hours from Summerville Ga.

Sounds good. Lots of things to see and do. You thinking fall?

At the moment I'm kind of targeting Mid September to early October. It may still be a bit warm, but I'm booked up the last half of October.

If I make this hang, and I plan on it, I'll bring amsteel and dynaglide to make whoopies for anyone who would like to compare and see them made.
Cottage Manufacturers will be more then welcome to come and show off their craft. If some of you DIYers want to bring some extra hammock setups and equipment to show off and try to garner some business I will be inviting some tenters along in an attempt to "Show them the light." so to speak.
I'm planning on bringing a couple of DIY double layer hammocks and some Tyvek tarps for some of the ground dwellers to check out.
Nothing would make me happier than to see a DIY hammock maker bring out an old school pedal powered sewing machine and make one on the fly for those that might have the DIY bug yet are intimidated by the thought of sewing machines. Seeing it in person would go a long way toward easing those fears. Or custom make one for someone for a nominal fee or something.
I was actually thinking about asking some of the cottage manufacturers that might be near by if they would like to come and bring some of their home made gear to sell.
Make the camp out Hammock camping related, but not hammock required, have some of the cottage manufacturers sehowing off their wares, as well as maybe a small swap meet. I know several folks in Alabama that are wanting to put together an outdoors inspired swap meet. It would add some interest to the whole deal.

Just down the road from you guys in Blount Co. I hope I can make this one if I don't have to work that weekend.
I'd be interested in this! Get it going and I'll try to make it!
I've been waiting until fall to try and put one together in south Alabama. If I am free, I'll definitely show up for this.

I'm usually down that way a few times when the Locust Fork is up. In fact I used to go visit Jeff Bynam in Oneonta occasionally. They build incredible VWs.
If TVA doesn't get back to me soon about using that area for it I'm going to see if the County will let me use the old Marshall County Campground #1. I mean I can't say as the location is that great, but it certainly has the space for a sizable group and will work in a pinch. And you can't miss it from Hwy 431 as it is right off 431 on the North side of the River Bridge and is lakeside. If that falls through, I got a couple of other things up my sleeve. I really want to be in reasonable proximity to water and some places to see.
This weekend I'm going to cruise down to the Dam and see if I can find someone there with some better information if TVA doesn't reply directly to my correspondence. Getting someone on the phone is apparently impossible.
Some other options are Bucks Pocket, Guntersville State Park, Monte Sano State Park in Huntsville, Might even consider Talladega National Forrest, I know backcountry camping is allowed there. I'll give TVA some time though, and when I know the deal there, I will post concrete dates and information.

I'm interested, just depends on the dates.
