[QUOTE=wirerat123;301574]I'm usually down that way a few times when the Locust Fork is up. In fact I used to go visit Jeff Bynam in Oneonta occasionally. They build incredible VWs.

I know Jeff.We use Blount Office Supply. He does good work on the VWs.

Me and my brother in law got some parts from Jeff to finish up my brother in laws cabby.

    I used to have 4 VWs, a 96 Jetta, an 84 Jetta GLI, an 84 Rabbit, and a 2002 GTI VR6.

Now I have a 1990 Pathfinder he he. That thing makes so much more sense than my VWs. If you ever saw a white 96 Jetta cruising down the road with 4 Kayaks stacked on top of it, that was me. Break loose the straps and MOVE cause they are coming off! Lol.

I will most likely be setting a date next week. TVA still hasn't contacted me, and I intend to go to the Dam this weekend and see if I can find someone to speak with. Unless of course I hear from someone today.

Also, I wanna turn you fellow Bama folks onto this website if you aren't familiar with it.

    http://www.alatrails.com/forum/index.php?referredby=514

Cool site with some cool people. Though not super active this time of year.

I got some info from TVA today (They sent me a map with public use areas).

Sept 24-26 will be the date for the time being, and I will be scouting 3 areas this weekend to determin what will be the best places to hold the hang out. So here it goes.

    Alabamas first annual:
Lake Guntersville 2 Day Summer Suspension
this year will be Sept 24-26 2010
    Location on map: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UT...36628fd3b0f9e9

Location subject to change barring accessibility or a better location is found (If we had a couple pontoon boats we could shuttle people to Goat Island and do it there hassle free). The current porposed area is according to map accessible by a service road it is in close proximity to goat Island, Bat caves, Cliff carvings, and Guntersville Dam. Goat Island, Bat Caves and the Cliff Carvings are only accessible by boat, or bushwhacking through the woods. This map from "KudzuCraft" shows Lake Guntersville area paddling sites. http://www.kudzucraft.com/misc/map.php

You can paddle down or motor down to the North bank of the Dam and get out to site see around the Dam.

The next Lake Guntersville 2 day Summer suspension will come with changes right out of the box. It will then change to "Lake Guntersville 2 day Spring Suspension" Last weekend in March (can be changed if there are conflicts with other events.).

I will start a new thread when I get locations down pat, but a date is set, mark your calendars for Sept 24-26 2010.

Sounds great. That's the closing weekend of AMA Superbike racing which will be at Barber outside of B'ham. Now I have to decide whether to stay at a hotel with my buddy next to the race track, or hang in Guntersville and commute back and forth. Man! The decisions!

There is a boat ramp right by the turn in to the current proposed area. With a Pontoon we can shuttle folks to Goat Island. It'd be cool to have a Goat Island hang.

If you are caught camping in areas that are not designated camping sites you will be heavily fined and banned from all state parks. The one thing HF is big on is following the rules. We do not condone illegal activity.
