    Just in from Mississippi

    Hello folks.

My name is Norman and I live in Madison, MS. I have been camping for decades and was introduced to hammocks by a member of our group on our recent trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. I was hooked the first time I sank into, and turned into a puddle in his ENO hammock. As soon as we got back home, I started researching the internet to find out how I could make one for myself.

I just finished sewing one with a double layer pocket of ripstop nylon for insulation in colder weather and for mosquito protection in warmer weather. I added a mosquito netting and snakeskins and was ready to go. I set it up in the backyard and last night was the first time that I have ever slept in one. It was amazingly comfortable and with a few tweeks could become my preferred method of camping.

Welcome to the forums thanks for joining us. Congratulations on already making your first hammock, mosquito netting and snake skins. Sounds like all you need is a tarp to complete your gear. How about posting some pics of your gear.

    Photos of DIY

Here are a few shots that I took this evening.

    Snakeskinned:

Hammock with mosquito netting over ridgeline and 10'x12' silnylon tarp folded back.

    Tarp pulled over and staked.

I used clips to hold the ends of the mosquito netting together to close it off after putting it over the ridgeline. This helped give me plenty of room in the hammock and let the breeze blow through the netting.

    Any suggestions for improvements?
