Getting Down
I never would have believed that I'd enjoy a thread injector so much.
Reading this forum not only got me into Hammocks but the DIY bug got me good. I've done a number of projects and my sewing skills I must say have
improved dramatically, I can sew a straight line!
Now I want to start with a Top Quilt using down, I've read dozens of posts here and have learned so much, thanks all, having said that there are always questions to ask....
The cost of down being so high I see no reason to cut cost on the fabric it rides in, from what I've read "Momentum" seems to stand out but I see in Thru-Hiker that 2 types are sold - Taffeta and Ripstop...any suggestions for
witch to use as the liner? as far as the outer shell - Momentum again or
would one of the ripstops be as good?
I'd like to get the fabric on order the down is on it's way from kookabay
good price but unknown quality...yet. I intend to place an order with
Stormcrow as he comes well recommended for his down quality.
I'm doing a lot of babbling here basically what I'm after is tips of any kind
when working with down

PKT,
I know what you mean! The thread injector is addictive!
I have found the fabric that is on the first line in the link below (20 denier taffeta) and it looks to me just like Momentum. I first used Momentum and found it to be dreamy and I can't tell the difference between that and the fabric below. Both are black, calendared on one side, weigh the same and have the same wonderful feel. The only difference I can see is in the price. And, Outdoor Wilderness Fabrics gives great, old fashioned service, even down to faxing or phoning in your order!

Thanks for the link. I guess you found it to be downproof, I wonder why
they don't list it that way? Maybe I'll give them a call when I place the order.

Darn I was hoping for a bit more help with my fabric selection here, guess I need to
try a new under arm deodorant.

I would give thru-hiker a call. He is more than willing to help and is very knowledgeable. (I also have 20 oz of down for sale...check the Marketplace)
