Permethrin Treating

Does anyone out there treat their hammock netting with premethrin?
If so, how do you go about it? Spray, soak?

If you use the spray, you will need to spray enough until the fabric looks wet. This might take a bottle or two depending on your hammock.

Long story short: no health concerns unless you're dumb enough to drink it or squirt the aerosol up your nose. Yes, many people get joy out of trying to scare you about it. No, that doesn't matter.

Hi Perrito~ There are a number of threads with a lot of information about permethrin and what people are doing with it. Some swear by it. Some are concerned about potential side effects.

Personally, I soaked my hammock in it and have had no issues with mosquitoes or bugs since. I will be soaking my hiking pants and shirt in it to avoid ticks. The brand many here use is the Sawyer's soak treatment.

Just as Savage said.........spray it enough until the fabric looks wet. I actually do my entire hammock including the bottom. No problems with skeeters, gnats or flies.

Be careful spraying it and handling it wet ... and let it dry ... and you're good to go. Just good common sense to wear gloves and avoid breathing the spray ...

Really does the trick. I spray my hiking pants, boots, hammock and tree straps. I have sprayed my pack in the past but haven't done that lately ... did pick up a tick on it this spring so I might do that again. One treatment will just about last the season.

I prefer the soak method, that way I don't have to worry about missing spots or applying too thinly. Just so you know, the stuff kills cats real good. If you have cats, make absolutely positive that everything is dry before there is any possibility of contact.

Good lord you guys use a lot of this stuff. I just use a spray can and don't spray till wet. Just a quick spray all over and a can will do all 8 of my hammocks. Never had a problem and I live in the most mosquitoe and tick infested place in the world.

BUT a good soaking ... and you only have to treat once for the season.
