Permethrin Treating

p.s. - I know Griffin well and I have to respectfully disagree with you on the bugs... its probably as bad as the northern half of GA gets there, but not nearly as bad as south GA, which isn't nearly as bad as SC. (IMO)

Thanx for all of the replies. I will be getting some permethrin for my clothing to do a soak and was just curious how many of y'all treat your hammocks.

Lizzie - you treat the entire hammock?

Hammock, bug net, pants, shirt, headwear, etc. I didn't treat my socks & undies.

Stop using the fishbowl to treat your stuff.

Once it's dried to the fibers it's not going to sluice off in amounts large enough to send fish belly up. I was worried about stream crossings - did a little more research and stopped worrying. And I wont be dragging the hammock through water any time soon.

I do. Mosquitoes can and do bite right through a nylon hammock.

That right there is a very good point...my dog likes to pounce on my cats, and we just got a big bottle of 2.5% permethrin because the Pit Bull is getting eaten up by Mosquitoes.

But then, I've read that the cat thing is terrible exaggerated and it would take a whole bottle of the stuff to kill a cat.

Better to take caution than listen to the internet.

Our Veterinarian is very concerned because we spray our donkeys with a Permethrin based bug spray. She is concerned enough about the effect on cats to suggest (very strongly) that we wear a tyvex oversuit when spraying the boys so that we don't come in the house with trace amounts of wet Permethrin on our clothing. I'd say it probably takes less than a bottle based on that recommendation.

Yeah well, I'm not about to risk my cats. It doesn't hurt to bias towards caution.
