Nice illustration. My first thought however when reading "The average human height is approximately 6 feet (2 meters)" was: "Wow, Americans are tall!". (Given my geography, I'm used to human sizes given in meters). Then I visited www.unitconversion.org and found out that 6 feet is more like 1.82 meters and 2 meters are over 6 feet and 6 inches. A nice sideeffect of this nitpicking (sorry about that by the way) is that I now know that my own height is 230 barleycorn and the weight I don't want to exceed is 500'000 carat. Gotta love round numbers

Thanks for making me learn something today!

Frikk, you are absolutely correct! I'm afraid that I did round a bit, and in meters, that turns out to be a little more than expected. I'm actually 1.778 meters tall, give or take a millimeter.

No, not in the least. It was one of the easiest to put together, actually. The only thing I took more time on was to get the measurements to scale. But then I worried it would come across as too technical, so I eased up on the numbers and rounded things off a bit to make it more approachable.

The big "Ah-Ha!" moment for me was seeing how easy it can be to get the optimal hang height and distance, the 30° angle, and a free slice of pizza to boot. Well, I'm still working on the free pizza, but maybe a generous HF member will surprise me on the next group hang.

Good stuff (as usual!), Dejoha! Thanks!

It's a great way to illustrate the interaction between connection height and tree separation.

Help a newb out a little. With that graphic i understand the distance between the trees, the mounting height, the 100" ridgeline. But what I dont understand is the OA length of the hammock itself. Wouldnt the ridgeline be different for a 11'6" hammock vs a 9' hammock? Based on your graphic, what was the hammock length?
    Thanks

The rule of thumb is that a structural ridgeline is 80% of the hammock length. A 100 inch ridgeline would be for a 125 inch hammock (roughly 10 feet).
