    Hammock for my thru-hike

Apparently they took out the "long distance hiking with a hammock" section of the forums, but I was just came here to say that I used my hammock for my thru-hike this year, and it worked perfectly, and comfortably.
I don't have a super fancy setup, and it weighs a little more than some, but other than that i traveled light, so it was worth the weight.
People always asked me about it at shelters and campsites, I showed them all about the setup, let them lay in it, and hopefully converted a few people.
So, my trip report is that i used it, it was awesome, and if anyone is thinking about taking one on an AT thru hike, DO IT.

That forum is here, under the General topic.

Congrats on your thru! And also on using a hammock for it...

why not? there are plenty trees on the west coast- (according to pictures I have seen)probably more 'tree-light' sections than the AT, but then you just set up in tarp/bivy mode...don't sacrifice all your comfort for a few awkard sections!

Not naturally, no way! It just provides you a new challenge. I mean really, you thru'd the AT. I figure you've kinda got this hiking thing down pat. You need a new challenge and aspiring PCT hangers are in need of a solution.

There has to be a way. There just has to be!

Sleep on the ground, all the cool kids are!!!

Bob Peoples had Yogi's book on the PCT out. All the Southbounders were commenting on it in all the registers. The PCT is on my extended list of stuff. Lucky enough to get to ride a motorcycle across Austraila. Still thinking of the what to do next year. Have other friends from the AT that went on to other trails.

Enjoy. I still never look at things in the same way as before.

I hiked the section of the PCT from Snoqualmie to Stevens Pass earlier this month, and there were plenty of trees there. In fact, flat sections suitable for a traditional tent or tarp/bivy were few and far between. If I had a hammock, my camping options would have increased by about 5000%!! That was one of the things that led me to this board! I'm sure there must be sections through the Sierra etc. that are difficult to find proper tree placement, but there's gotta be solutions....
