    Amsteel color questions

I'd normally just email Paul, but I'm sure he's bogged down with a million things right now, due to his wildly successful sale going on. So I'll ask here, and that's one less thing he has to worry about, if someone knows the answer.

The amsteel by the foot he's selling right now is 'black/dark gray' in color. Is that the same color as the gunmetal whoopies he's selling right now? Or is that a different color/critter altogether? I like that color (the gunmetal whoopies), and want some raw cord to play around with, but am having trouble finding anyone who stocks 'gunmetal' amsteel.

Probably. I ordered some of the "black" amsteel from Paul and it was a dark gun barrel gray color.

Yep one and the same, I used the term gunmetal because it better describes the slings once made than the black dose. With use all of the dyes used on amsteel will lighten up, black goes to a dark greyish looking color.---aka--Gunmetal.

I had a feeling you might see this and respond, Paul.

Good to know. I'll be ordering soon!

By the by, you sell in 25 ft lengths. I assume if I want, say, 100ft, I just order 4 in the quantity box, and drop a note that I want a continuous amount?

Yeah, I think Gunmetal is a more apt description. And that stuff gets on my hands when I tie knots. I guess it is a dye rather than the color being part of the material like a nylon.

All the Amsteel ropes (so far as I know) are dyed so the color will "bleed" when wet, especially the blue!

The plain gray doesn't seem to be dyed, and it doesn't fade. That is the only exception that I've found.

It is still a dye but closer to the natural color of while. It though seems to be either a better dye or just adheres better. But if you run a couple hundred feet of the grey though your hands they will come back with a blackish bleed on them. Not as bad as the black or other colors but still there.

I was wondering why I saw so many people with tie-dye blue Amsteel!

Yep you got it, 4 for qt will get you 100 feet, and I never cut it down unless the customer wants it that way, continuous up to 600 feet lengths, unless you really want more then we can get 1200 feet continuous.
